Wind Tunnel
Thursday, February 10, 2000

Love Pony and I went to a wind tunnel on Tuesday. It was so funny, the walls were glass so you could watch (or be watched) the people while they were flying. The non-skydivers were bouncing all over the place as the instructor pushed and pulled them trying to keep them in the air flow. We only had time for 2 one minute solos. I can't wait to do it again. Love Pony went in before me and did great. She shot up to about 15 feet and did a bunch of controlled 180's and 360's. When it was my turn I found it to be way easier than I thought it was going to be. It is strange looking through the window at people sitting on a bench while you're flying around. I flew up and down and did a bunch of 360's then started staring back at the people on the other side of the glass. The non-jumpers were looking amazed at the fact that I could go up and down on the column of air. I arched hard and started toward the mesh net floor. I stopped a few inches off the floor and tried to look as nervous as I could and then flapped my arms like I was trying to fly. Love Pony was laughing hysterically but the other people were just staring in confused amazement. Their expressions were very entertaining so I thought I'd give them more to think about. I slowed my flapping and held the down stroke (de-arch) a little longer than the up so each flap brought me higher about 10 inches. Then I would hover there until I flapped again and go a little higher. Love Pony was on the bench with five other people but she was the only one laughing. Everyone else looked like they were trying to figure out how I was doing what I was doing. I got as high as I could, about 25 feet, I got eye contact with someone on the other side of the glass and tried to look like I was happy to be up where I was. Then I arched hard and gave a panicked look as a dropped to inches above the net, stopped and repeated the whole thing again.
