Thanksgiving 2005

Thanksgiving was a smashing hit!
Amy and I cooked for days.
The turkey turned out great
We had two kinds of gravy
and our homemade cranberry/quince sauce was fantastic!
It was a lot of fun using the whole kitchen
Amy and I made a great team.
We had the both ovens working and all the burners on the stove going.

It was a hectic holiday week...
Saturday and Sunday we prepared our menu and shopped for food.
Sunday we made triple mushroom gravy (3 hour process)
Shiitake, portobello and white mushrooms
very tasty, very mushroomy.
Monday night our friend Enzo finished painting, looks great.
Monday from 7PM to 1AM we cleaned the house
Tuesday my parents arrived and are staying as house guests until Dec 5
We took my parents out to dinner and told them about the baby that's on the way.
Wednesday night we got things ready for Thursday
We made a cranberry/quince sauce (3+ hours)
Quinces are difficult to peel, there was a small loss of blood
potato peelers are scary things
Among other things, chocolate chip cookies were made
not all of the cookies made it to Thursday,
many were used as fuel for the chefs (mostly me)
Thursday we woke up and started cooking
Everything was made from scratch
except the pies Amy's mom brought from Baker's Square
The stuffing had home made bread crumbs
and apricots, craisins, dried cherries, apples, onions and celery.
Amy made a yam/apple brown sugar and pecan casserole
Amy and I went to Lake Geneva Friday and got home Monday night.
We stayed at a place that had a water park
two water slides, one you ride down on a raft
the other slide was pitch black inside - it was cool
I work today and tomorrow and then I'm leaving for a weekend in Florida
we'll see if I remember how to skydive
poor Amy will be left at home with my parents
when I get back in town you simply must visit
godspeed
